The Thesis deals with conventional and unconventional characteristics of metaphors in German economic media discourse. The analysis was based on economic articles from German periodicals. Conventional metaphors are defined as metaphorical expressions that belong to traditional metaphorical concepts of German economic media discourse, are distinguished by recurrence and regularity of use and exist in the language as a ready vocabulary item; their meaning is established and conventional fixed in dictionaries. Conventional metaphors are classified according to three areas of the communicative reality and their linguistic characteristics are described. The most productive sources of metaphorization and the main ways of creation of unconventional metaphors are revealed. In accordance with the source of creation unconventional metaphors are divided into individual and common metaphors. The non-verbal form of metaphor realization in caricatures is also investigated.
