Essay

Historical and faunal analysis of the Late Miocene freshwater fish fauna of Southern Ukraine is in the thesis. The investigated localities are associated with river and avandelt deposits, and formed by the alluvial taphogenesis. The presence of 44 species, 24 genera, 8 families and 4 orders of bony fishes, including 26 species of 16 genera, belonging to the family Cyprinidae, is identified. Scardinius haueri, as well as Luciobarbus and Palaeocarassius genera, were firstly pointed for the investigated region. Two new extinct carp fish species (Rutilus robustus, Scardinius ponticus) were described.
