Essay

The paper focuses on structural, semantic, and pragmadiscoursive features of utterances with verbal implicature indicators (VII) in modern English discourse. The methodological basis of the research is the modern pragmalinguistics, characterized by accentuation of cognitive and discoursive vectors of the speech study. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by the development of structural and semantic typologies of compound implicative predicates and the definition of their volume; the establishing of the nature of meanings, that the utterances with VII give rise to (implication, presupposition, implicature); the qualification of implicative predicate definition from the position of discoursive pragmatics. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by the fact, that it promotes the solution of problems of pragmalinguistics, discoursology, lexical semantics and syntactics, and theoretical grammar of modern English. The research results contribute to the development of theory of implicature, speech act theory, and the range of problems, relating to actualization of presupposition in discourse and implementation of discoursive strategies and tactics. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility of their application in teaching theoretical grammar of English (themes "Verb", "Syntax of simple sentences", "Semantic syntax", "Pragmatic syntax"), general linguistics (theme "Language and thought"), special courses in communication theory (theme "Speech activity"), actual problems of pragmalinguistics, discoursology, and rhetoric, as well as in the process of writing research papers of different levels.
