Overview of modern experimental researches of strength and stability shells, particularly steel chimneys shells explained in the dissertation. Comparative evaluation of calculation modern methods of steel chimneys shells and design methods of this type of structures are shown in the work. Determinate, indeterminate and highlight questions in research of stress-strain state analysis was provided. In the work discussed primitive form of structural design for researches of geometric deviations effect. Field tests results of steel chimneys shells are shown. The most spread geometric deviations of steel chimneys shells and their quantitative characteristics were determined. The numerical and experimental studies of SSS of steel chimneys shells with geometric imperfections were discussed in the dissertation. Laboratory installation for experimental studies of strength and stability of long cylindrical shells under the influence of an equivalent wind load was developed. The method of accounting of local stresses in areas with geometric deviations in the case of local concavity of a shell, eccentricity of docking, taking into account the wide range of sizes of geometric deviations have been enhanced.
