The dissertation presents a comprehensive analysis of the social preconditions of emergence and essence of the anti-cult movement, reconstruction of basic theoretical principles of content, features of its functioning in the socio-cultural and multi-religious space and defined organizational framework. The state of research of the anti-cult movement in the Anglo-American, Ukrainian and Russian religious study is analyzed. Explore different approaches of prominent European and American sociologists of religion to the problem of the definition of "anti-cult movement" and its social basis. Shows the process of the formation of the anti-cult movement in the US and Europe. The features of the functioning of the anti-cult movement in Europe is revealed. Substantitates the forms of manifestations of the anti-cult movement - deprogramming, exit counseling and attempts to influence the public authorities to restricting the activities of new religious movements.
