Essay

This thesis provides a theoretical framework and suggests a new approach to a current scientific and practical task aimed to optimize treatment of patients with coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes by using a combination of biguanides and thiazolidinediones. The thesis proves pathogenetic feasibility, clinical efficacy and safety of combined use of pioglitazone and metformin in treatment of patients with coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes in order to improve the subjective state of patients, normalize blood pressure, improve anthropometric and electrocardiographic parameters, and correct the major disorders of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, parameters of insulin resistance and level of systemic inflammation.
