Nepokupna-Slobodyanuk T. Combined therapy of patients with chronic generalized periodontitis with short-term and long-term antibiotic azithromycin.

The thesis is devoted to elaboration of complex therapy for chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) with systemic azithromycin by examining modes of it appointment, to improve treatment effectiveness and long-term results. There were analyzed treatment results in dynamics for 1 year from 60 patients 26-70 years old with CGP I, II and III severity, which were randomly distributed into three groups with standard conservative periodontal treatment, short and long course of azithromycin, respectively. Based on clinical results and dynamics of IL-1, ALT, AST levels in periodontal pockets it was shown appropriate use of long azithromycin course in addition to local treatment, with expected efficiency 80% for at least one year with well tolerability in patients with CGP exacerbation and with or without systemic diseases that can modify periodontitis progression. In case of long course impossibility it is rational to use azithromycin by three days with expected efficiency of 50% for up to 6 months.
