Livitska O. Evolution of the epithet system in T.S. Eliot's poetic texts

The thesis is dedicated to the study of the evolution of the epithet system in the poetic texts by T.S. Eliot. The author accomplishes a detailed analysis of architectonic and semantic peculiarities of individual epithet structures in the early and late periods of T.S. Eliot's poetry. General character of the evolution of the epithet system helps to define a stylistic dominant of a collection, a cycle or a poetic text written by T.S. Eliot. Functioning of epithet structures changes with the development of Eliot's poetic works. These changes affected the basic tendencies of creative searches of the artist. The leading role of epithet structures in mythologization of poetic texts by T.S. Eliot is given. The author considers functional designation of epithet returns which contribute to a text coherence and entirety of incarnation of thanatological motifs in the poet's work. It is proved that the evolution of the epithet system is interconnected with the evolution of Eliot's poetic work.
