Essay

The object is the representative examples of the English Renaissance novel. The aim is the reconstruction of rising the big form of narrative prose in the literature of England in the epoch of Renaissance. The methods are genealogical, textological, historical-genetic, historical-typological, structural-semiotic, hermeneutic. The dissertation is the first work in the Ukrainian literary criticism to offer a comprehensive approach to the genesis of the English Renaissance novel correlating this process in methodological and conceptual aspects of the study with the horizons of the differing reception of the literary tradition defining the formation of the genre of the novel in the cultural dialogue. On this basis the research generalizes aesthetic principles of creating the genre and ways of its poetological organization realized in the English Renaissance novel, clarifies the directions of estranging romance models paved by the founders of the genre - J. Lyly, Ph. Sidney, R. Greene, Th. Lodge, Th. Nash and Th. Deloney - in the stream of mastering artistic creative matrix formed in the interaction of poetics and rhetoric in the period of traditionalism. In this context the research verifies the dynamics of correlating modal and thematic genre parameters revealed during the transition from romance to novel. Implementation field: educational process.
