Object - R. Bradbury's short stories. Purpose - definition of semantic and poetic constants in Ray Bradbury's short stories of 1960-70-ies in the context of the tradition of classical and modern science fiction. Methods - philological analysis with elements of interpretation, poetical-stylistic and semantic analysis. The research presented is the first attempt in the Ukrainian literary criticism that focuses on the complex philological analysis and interpretation of R. Bradbury's short stories (an American writer of the XX century). A creative development of the writer was traced, connections of his works with previous literary traditions were studied. Peculiarities of Bradbury' creative individuality as an artist and a writer were revealed. A philosophical-ethical character of the author's model of the vital mode was elucidated, correlations of Good and Evil were examined in fantasies of the writer, a measure of inheritance of the Gothic tradition by the writer and his individual aesthetic solution of this problem were considered in detail. Embodiment of the theme of art was investigated in Bradbury's short stories and it was proved (by close reading) that fantasy "portraits" of the known artists in his stories are a genre devise of the writer. Both the connection of Bradbury's prose with poetry and lyricism of his fiction were searched. Scope - educational process.
