Essay

The dissertation is devoted to complex analysis of inclusion process of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church's teaching into socio-political sphere in Ukraine during 1991 - first half of 2014. The social teaching of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (the UGCC) is examined. The doctrine of the Church springs up as theological and anthropological system with normative nature. Author identified and reproduced foundations as well as historical conditions that Church uses to give an interpretation for notions of human dignity, freedom of will and responsibility. According to researcher standpoint notion of human dignity is the most essential principle in the process to creation, development and inclusion of the UGCC social teaching in Ukraine to social reality. Aspects of development of Church's doctrine becomes the object of analysis in context of socio-political transformations. Thereby features of using the principles of the Church's social teaching are studied. That are the principles of common good, subsidiarity and solidarity. The UGCC suggests shaping just society on these backgrounds. Nevertheless, the Church insists on necessity of irrational love-charity in social practice. Author summarized that the UGCC understands any state as an association of individuals not as separated collective super-individual. The UGCC makes an accent that every state and every Church must serve not to dominate the human. Henceforth the Church imposes on formation the partnership relations between Church and State. The only goal of politics the UGCC like the whole Catholic Church is permanent care over common goal of all society, not just any part of it. The Church's teaching recognizes the right of resistance to state authorities who neglect mentioned law. Such right in keeping with the Church's teaching is independent from state legislation. Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, the UGCC gives more attention to explanation the nation sphere. Author defined that the UGCC rejects radical nationalism and chauvinism but appreciates national sentiments of believers and its own national character. Two trends of the UGCC teaching to avoidance the term "nationalism" and to interpretation it in neutral light are elucidated. The explanation of the Church's position toward the democracy hold special place in the dissertation. Specificity of the Church's views upon democracy author deduces from the normative nature of Church's social teaching. Thanks to high care over human dignity, the UGCC motivates believers to take an active position in political affairs. Therefore, the Church approaches to the significance of free democratic election. The UGCC teaching over election of political authorities that must serve their community is the example of apposite implementation of religious intentions into socio-political life. Author gives fundamental explanation how the Church induces people in Ukraine to examine real activity and intentions of political parties and authorities before elections. Moreover, how the Church recommends citizens to keep control over state power even after election.
