The thesis focuses on the semantics of English prepositional phrases without article and their functions in American magazine discourse. The thesis reveals that the meaning of the phrases under study results from the interaction of three components: categorical reflected in their general meaning; constructional implying their existence as parings of fixed structure and meaning; situational encompassing the components of an event and links between them.
