Essay

The object of study - diabetic retinopathy. Purpose: To determine the optimal model of experimental diabetes for studying treatment modalities of retinal neurodegenerative processes, by studying manifestation peculiarities and severity of neurodegenerative changes in diabetic retinopathy, in rabbits, rats and mice, using histological, histochemical and clinical studies. Methods: ophtalmological, histological, histochemical, biochemical, statistical data processing. Microscope Laboval-4, Camera "Canon Powershot A480", spectrophotometer SF-mini1240 (Schumadze Japan). For the first time found that intravenous dithizone leads rabbits to retinal neurodegeneration, it is combiened with pathological changes of the choroid. Derangemet of the content, nature and distribution of PAS-positive compounds in the retina are more pronounced in rabbits with diabetes than in rats and mice. The resulting changes in rabbit retina can be regarded as a manifestation of diabetic retinopathy with severe neurodegenerative features on histological level. Neurodegenerative retinal changes are not determined by ophthalmoscopy. Distinguished usage was substantiated for different diabetic models for studying vascular or neurodegenerative retinal changes. Control of PAS-positive compounds in diabetic rabbits can serve as a neurodegeneration criterion. The results of the work are used in the laboratory of pathology and electron microscopic studies and laboratory of biochemistry, lectures lectures interns, residents and graduate students in the SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine". Sphere of use - medicine, ophthalmology.
