Object is the process of ensuring the economic efficiency of passenger rail traffic. Purpose is the development of theoretical and methodical approaches, practical recommendations to determine of the optimal zones of passenger trains traffic in terms of transformational change. Methods - general scientific and specific: dialectical and systematic approach, methods of mathematical statistics, mathematical analysis and comparison, decision-making methods, observation, specification, grouping, generalization, methods of economic justification, the concept of marginal income, method of cost optimization. Novelty. Methodical approach to determine rational zones of passenger trains traffic of various types. The methodical approach to determine the optimal zones of suburban, high-speed trains traffic and long distance trains was improved. Results. Factors influencing on optimization of traffic zones of passenger trains in Ukraine were determined; general approach to determine optimal traffic zones of passenger trains was developed; scientific methodological approaches to determine optimal traffic zones for suburban, regional, inter-regional passenger trains and high-speed day trains were developed; classification of passenger trains in Ukraine on the principles of traffic zones optimization was improved. Research results were implemented in enterprises of railway transport. Industry - rail transport.
