The thesis is devoted to the scientific research of the functions of public administration, their characteristics and types. The level of scientific development of the category "functions of public administration" is analyzed. There is given the notion of "functions of public administration" and is analyzed the essence of functions of public administration. The analysis of the existing classifications of public administration functions is given. It is submitted to classify the functions of public administration by the direction criteria, and established a list of functions of the marked out types. The socio-oriented and intra-oriented functions of public administration are characterized.
