Essay

The paper provides an overview of the main stages in the development of poetic onomastics as a separate science, as well as the analysis of different approaches to the problems of its metalanguage and poetonyms classifications. The methodology for the study of poetonomastic functions in the works of fantasy as a literary genre is suggested, the poetonyms are classified according to their denotative and quantitative peculiarities. We also address the issue of the linguistic and cultural specificity of the poetonyms selected from the material under investigation.
