Borutska Y. Natural water in the River Stryi basin (ecological-hydrogeochemical aspects)

Object of investigations: natural waters in the basin of the Stryi River; subject of investigations: component composition in natural waters of the Stryi River; methods of investigations: field geoecological, hydrogeochemical, analytical, experimental modelling, statistical; practical value: results reached as to the influence of geochemical barriers upon natural waters have allowed us to substantiate ecological safety of the rock dump construction during building of the new branch-line of the Beskidsky railway tunnel as well as in the employment of the dissertation’s materials by ecological and nature-safe organizations for application in the planning of the building, mastering of recreational zones, health-improving of the environment taking into account established peculiarities of the formation and factors of self-purification of natural waters of the basin of the Stryi River, other territories of the Lviv areas and of the Ukraine on the whole; originality: it was determined that formation of the chemical composition of natural waters in the basin of the Stryi River occurs under the influence of the landscape - geoecological conditions and technogenous loading; for the first time experimentally was revealed a geochemical unstability in time of abnormally high oil and phenol pollutions of natural waters in sites of oil-producing in the course of their interactions with sand-clay soils; high efficiency of sorption geochemical barriers of different mineral composition was determined; it was proved that high saturation of river waters of the Stryi River basin with oxygen and their increased ability to self-purification is caused by the existence of the hydrodynamic barrier conditioned by the mountain relief of the territory and heterogeneity of the geological structure; a high potential of natural waters of the basin of the Stryi River for self-purification was substantiated as well as the multi-factor character of this process provided by the direct effect of the mineral-sorption and gydrodynamic geochemical barriers, multi-time dilution and ability of landscapes to reconstruction in spite of great technogenous loading; sphere of usage: purification of natural waters.
