Essay

The subject of the study is English north-eastern dialect (NED) within the period of 1960-2010. Functioning characteristics of the English NED phonetic, lexical and grammatical units and their microdiachronic variation constitute the scope of the research. The scientific research objective is to determine phonetic, lexical, grammatical deviations of the English NED via specification of their functioning features within the period of 1960-2010. The methodological procedures of the scientific research include general scientific (abstracting, generalisation, formalisation, modeling), empiric-and-theoretic (analysis, synthesis, quantitative analysis) and special (auditive analysis, graphical interpretation) methods. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the systemic approach to substantiation of the English NED genesis model, the determination of variation regularity of the north east dialect phonetic, lexical, grammatical units, the experimental verification of the qualitative and quantitative features of their functioning within the period of 1960-2010 as well as in the specification of the term "dialect", its linguistic status and classification. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to the general phonetics, lexicology, grammar, regional and territorial dialectology, ethnography and sociolinguistics. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in teaching phonetics (themes "English Accents", "English Orthoepy"), lexicology ("Formatives and Categories of Comparative Lexicology"), grammar ("Comparative morphology", "Comparative Syntax"), stylistics ("Standard, Types of Stylistics", "Expressive means and stylistic devices"), general linguistics ("Language and Speech", "Language and society"), as well as in lexicography.
