Essay

A systematic study is performed of the edge and slit diffraction of paraxial light beams with optical vortices. The analytical theory is developed for the mutual transformation between the vortex and asymmetry forms of the transverse energy circulation upon the edge and slit diffraction of beams, which is based on the irradiance moments and on the concepts of vortex and asymmetry parts of the orbital angular momentum.
