Essay

The dissertation deals with the research of arts interactions, specifically with ragtime and jazz recoding in the novels of American writers E.L. Doctorow "Ragtime" and T. Morrison "Jazz". The work characterizes main forms of jazz art implication according to concepts of literary-musical intermediality by A. Gier, W. Wolf, S.P. Sher as well as reveals their artistic-aesthetic meaning. Generalizing typological scheme of jazz recording levels based on the novels analyses has been formulated in this study. When investigating and characterizing literary-musical intermediality phenomena considerable attention is paid to the detailed textual analyses. Music terminology in complex with method of eidetic reduction for singling out of musicalization forms are actively used in the dissertation. An important position is occupied by interpretation of the defined musicalization elements in the novels from the point of view of poetics peculiarities and their role in artistic-ideological content implication within a particular motive, image or the whole novel.
