Essay

Based on the study of influence of biomorphic silicon carbide on the culture of osteogenic stromal stem cells of human bone marrow the assessment of the cytotoxicity of the studied implant material was carried out and the absence of its negative impact on the differentiation and proliferation of these cells was proved. The analyses of tissue reactions on the implantation of silicon carbide samples compared with titanium for medical purpose was conducted in the experiment on laboratory rats allowing to evaluate the biocompatibility of the biomorphic ceramics. Simultaneously, the bioinertness of the studied material by assessing the strength of its interaction with immunocompetent molecules compared with medical titanium was researched by atomic-force microscopy. In the experimental model of mandible defect of laboratory rats substituted by implant with biomorphic SiC its interaction with the bone tissue and the nature of restructuring in their direct contact was studied by SEM. The experimental study revealed a high level of biocompatibility and bioinertness of biomorphic silicon carbide with no cytotoxic effect, and it became possible to recommend it as an implant material for the manufacture of implants for medical purposes in particular for use in maxillofacial surgery to correct the defects of the facial bones.
