Essay

The thesis is a comprehensively monographic research, where considers procedural, theoretical and practical issues of research of microscopic objects using optical methods. It presents the author's definition of "optical methods of forensic research", "scientific and technical forensic means", validates the term "scientific and technical forensic means" for the forensic and law enforcement practice and introduces articles of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine that would contain the necessary definitions and general conditions of admissibility of the scientific and technical forensic tools and techniques. The author has systematized optical methods for studies of microscopic objects, classified open schemes of optical microscopic and spectroscopic methods for research of microscopic objects against the harmonically related criteria. The author suggested the number of new optical techniques that can be used for forensic study of microscopic objects. She improved the multi-layer classification of microscopic objects that corresponds to operational stages, and requirements applicable to the methods of forensic activities. She considered the main stages of an expert study of microscopic objects using optical methods, the expert assessment aspects and its probative value.
