Essay

space in the texts of Georges Perec, involving geocritical approach, elements of geopoetics, philosophy of space, semiotic of place, genetic criticism and intertextuality. The historical overview of the concepts of space and the stages of its anthropologization is given in the context of classical and modern theories of space. The problem of space in literary geography is discussed via the specificity of geographical space in general, given its epistemological foundations and cultural aspects. The study examines philosophical and literary background of Georges Perec, his passage from critical realism to intertextuality, as well as peculiarities of spatial problematic in Perec's prose based on biographical, literary and geographical sources. Methods of anthropologization of geographical space are identified both in non-fiction ("Places", "Species of Spaces", "An Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris," "Ellis Island and the People of America") and fiction ("Things", "A Man Asleep", "W, or the Memory of Childhood", "Life a User's Manual", "A Gallery Portrait") works of Georges Perec.
