The thesis studies the origins and specific of a vocal and instrumental ensemble in the funk style. The author has defined and classified the main features of the funk style in the context of interference between funk and jazz as phenomena of the "third" layer in the music of XX - early XXI centuries. The researcher has also examined the impact of pre-jazz forms of music-making of African-American and European traditions into the funk culture.
