Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the development of a new combined method for reducing dimensions of two- and three-dimensional problems of the theory of elasticity - based on the method of lines. In this method the Bubnov-Galerkin-Petrov projection method is used to reduce the dimension. As a result, the static problems are reduced to solving a system of ordinary first order differential equations that depend only on the coordinate х. This method of reducing dimensions is extended to calculate heterogeneous thick plates. The heterogeneity of the material is described by continual-heterogeneous, piecewise-heterogeneous and discrete-heterogeneous models. The effective numerical methods that are based on the method of discrete orthogonalization of S.K.Hodunova were adapted for the numerical solution of reducing equations. The method is applied to calculate three-dimensional problem of statics and unsteady dynamics of heterogeneous thick plates.
