The dissertation focuses on the performativity of speech acts in the preaching genre of the contemporary English theological discourse. The research seeks to give a comprehensive account on the speech acts by means of exploring the pragmatic specificity of their communicative background, i.e. the Protestant sermons, the genre of popular theology. The novelty of an initiated research derives from its aim to elucidate the pragmatic peculiarities of the performative speech acts functioning in contemporary Protestant sermon genre through their correlation with the non-performative acts.
