Tonenchuk T. Structural-semantic, ideographic and functional aspects of somatic phraseological units in modern English

The thesis is devoted to the complex study of structural semantic and phraseological thematic features of phraseological units with a somatism-component and the analysis of their functioning in contemporary works. Phraseological units with a somatism-component make a numerous group in English phraseology. The ideographic classification of somatic phraseology, which brings together all the somatic phraseological units into a single phraseological thematic system, is developed on the basis of existing classifications, but it offers improvements and several modifications. Types of meaning formation of somatic phraseological units by means of metaphor, metonymy and metaphtonymy are described.
