Essay

For the first time in musicology, kontakion is considered complexly, taking into account the Divine service Ukrainian canticle books of the 16th–19th cc. (the official ones – since the 15th c. on). The research history of kontakion (рolystrophic and monostrophic) and associated with him phenomena of ecclesiastic singing is analyzed. Kontakion is defined from the positions of set of its genre features (the content of the poetic texts, a place in the church services, function, frequency of useless, the way of execution, “text – tune” correlation, degree of melodiousness, composition, evolution). The typical chant of kontakia is defined (Bulgarian).
