The thesis investigates responsive strategies and tactics in Modem English dialogical discourse within cognitive-pragmatic, communicative and gender aspects.We distinguish the notions of reactive and responsive replying. Reactive replying is the addressee's uncontrolled, immediate response to the addresser's actions, while responsive replying is the addressee's deliberate response that correlates with his / her intentions and influences the choice of corresponding responsive strategies and tactics.
