Essay

This research focuses on revealing the peculiarities of syntactic organization of English poetic drama within the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics. The methodology of comprehensive analysis of English poetic drama is based on linguistic assumptions of poetics viewed from a cognitive perspective. The paper elucidates cognitive properties of syntactic constructions viewed as microsyntactic units of English poetic drama, as well as genre pecularities of compositional-speech forms viewed as microsyntactic units of syntactic space of English poetic drama. The syntactic space of English poetic drama is seen as a systemic organization of various syntactic constructions united by means of certain syntactic relations expressed by different connectors that predetermine specifics of creating types of narration and speech genres in a poetic text. It is maintained that configurations of syntactic space in of macrosyntactic units such as imaginary monologue-dialogue, grotesque dialogue, monologue-parable, requiem-pray, monologue-preaching are predetermined by the types of syntactic constructions and speech genre. Key words: poetic drama, syntactic space, syntactic construction, types of narration, constructive and creative mapping.
