The complex research of legal nature, conceptual apparatus, and peculiarities of legal basis of normalization in the sphere of ambient air protection in Ukraine is conducted on the basis of studying of scientific literature, legislative and other regulatory acts. The author analyzed historical and legal development of the institute of normalization in the mentioned sphere; defined and uncovered the meaning of the notion "normalization in the sphere of ambient air protection"; revealed the essense and charecteristics of normalization as a legal means of ambient air protection, considered the basic problems of the mechanism of the studied legal institute realization, justified the necessity of development and installation of the exceptional list for standards, which may include the standarts of greenhouse gases emissions, researched the peculiarities of legal regulation of normalization in the field of ambient air protection of the European Union and other foreign countries. It is stated that in conditions of European integration processes and with regard to the liabilities as for legal regulation of ambient air protection according to the international agreements there is a necessity in borrowing and adapting European and international legal experience in the studied sphere with a view to its use in the lawmaking and law enforcement in Ukraine. On the background of the conducted research the theoretical conclusions were made, a number of problems that require the decision were outlined, and the proposals for amending the current legislation were formed, which will enable to improve the regulation of normalization in the sphere of ambient air protection in Ukraine.
