Essay

The thesis is devoted to the question of the formation and existence of the universal collection of M. Hrushevsky. Complex theoretical and methodological approaches to the nature of collecting phenomenon as well as the reasons and motives of assembling collections are considered. On this basis, the psychological, intellectual, cognitive, social and cultural reasons of collecting practices of M. Hrushevsky are analyzed. The stages of the historian's collecting activities are determined, the basic means of completing of his collection are revealed. The author attempts to reconstruct the content and structure of historian's collection, its thematic units on the basis of the involved complex of the published and archival sources. The study also deals with the relationship of M. Hrushevsky's collecting activities and his scientific work, its connection to scholar's artistic and museum work.
