The thesis focuses on the study of structure, semantics and functions of pleonasms in modern English media discourse. Constituent genre features of the analyzed media discourse have been singled out. The paper offers a definition of pleonasm and a comprehensive methodology for its study. The types of pleonasms are examined from structural and semantic perspectives. The thesis also suggests the classification of functions of pleonasms in modern English media discourse. The research outlines the specific usage of pleonasms in modern English media discourse. It is proved that pleonasms create emotional tension and are used to intensify or clarify information.
