Hurkova O. The work of I.Karabyts in the context of genre and stylistic tendencies in Ukrainian music of the last third of the 20th century

This thesis considers the work of a prominent Ukrainian composer, pedagogue, conductor, musician and public figure Ivan Karabyts in the context of genre and stylistic tendencies in Ukrainian music of the last third of the 20th century. Based on 10 works by I.Karabyts and 9 works by other composers (Ye.Stankovych, M.Skoryk, I.Shcherbakov, K.Tsepkolenko et al.), the thesis illustrates such genre updates in Ukrainian chamber vocal and instrumental chamber music of the last third of the 20th century as the growing interest in folk and oriental symbols, satire, theatricality of the instrumental genre. I.Karabyts' stylistic diversity, as well as thas of other contemporary Ukrainian composers, is revealed through the analysis of neo-Classical, neo-Baroque, neo-Romantic, post-modern trends.
