Kholmogortseva I. Dialogical Relations of the Genre of British Folk Play

This paper focuses on investigation of the genre of British folk play on the basis of the aspects of dialogical relations described as gnoseological, communicative, textual, linguistic as well as cultural and historical ones. Thus it comprises the notions and techniques of such theories as dialogism, speech genres and the folklore. The major scientific methods are intertextual, discourse and stylistic analyses. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by a pioneering investigation of British folk play which is proved to be a hybrid folklore genre functioning within the carnival discourse; this dissertation also reasons the notion of avant-text as a folklore text category which functions in terms of internal dialogical relations between the text elements with each other and external orientation towards the listener and his / her linguistic competence. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to the theory of dialogism, text linguistics, linguo-cultural and linguo-folklore studies as well as linguo-stylistics. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in teaching English language stylistics ("Text Stylistics", "Stylistic Semasiology"), linguo-country studies ("Great Britain: Country and People"), theoretical grammar ("Structural Analysis of the Sentence"), in developing special courses in text linguistics and genre studies as well as in the process of writing research papers of different levels.
