Yarema O. Allusion in the texts of British fiction literature: linguistic and statistical aspects (on the material of modernists' works)

The research is focused on functioning of allusive elements inthe texts of British modernism literature. The involvement of linguistic, intertextual and statistical research apparatus enables to carry out the analysis of allusion characteristics withinthe interdisciplinary approach and to get credible results confirmed by statistical estimate based on nonparametric chi-square test and Student's t-test criterion. Syntactic and grammatical constructions of modernism texts determine the number of allusions in the texts of various kinds. Low frequency of allusions in dramatic texts is caused by the use of additional nonverbal means for presenting text on the stage, and thus leads to the narrowing of the language tools arsenal. The emergence of the greatest number of allusions in lyrical family of literature is motivated by compressed language of a poem, its expressiveness and emotionality.
