The subject of the investigation is western corn rootworm, fields of corn, other agricultural plants, modern chemical insecticides. The objective of the investigation is study peculiarities of ecology and development. Improvement of control numbers of western corn rootworm. Revealing ecologically oriented system of protection of corn agrocenoses against the pest. The methods are generally in entomology and plant protection, field, laboratory and cameral, mathematical-statistical. Peculiarities of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera Le Conte phonology throughout vertical climatic zones of Transcarpathian region have been specified. It has been established that terms of certain pest ontogenetic stage depend on the speed of effective temperature sum accumulation needed for its development. Forecasting of western corn rootworm development terms has been developed. Trophic activity of western corn rootworm has been studied. It has been established that alternative host-plant family Cucurbitaceae and Fabaceae availability in corn crops is one of the factors which influences on the pest quantity. Influence of crop rotation and corn seeding terms on the quantity, harmfulness and plants population with phytophages has been researched. Technical effectiveness of a number of modern chemical and biological preparations with insecticidal action to destroy western corn rootworm imago quantity has been substantiated. Economic effectiveness of corn corps application with chemical and biological insecticides has been determined. The branch is agriculture, entomology, plant protection.
