Essay

This work presents an analysis of musical interpretations of the sacral Latin text of Ave Maria and its initial phrase. It presents samples from the archetype - the Gregorian Choral (deciphered by Adam Gumpelzheimer) to the composition of 2009 - "Ave Maria: Variations on a theme by Giacinto Scelsi" for the piano by Ian Power. Reception of the sacral symbol Ave Maria in various kinds of art, by composers of different nationalities and religions testifies to the non-confessional, international comprehension of the image of the Blessed Virgin, departure from the boundaries of the cult purpose of religious symbols and the Scriptural stories.
