Essay

The thesis is devoted to the historical-philosophical research of the "idea" concept in J. Locke's, G, Berkeley's and D. Hume's epistemological conceptions. The existing approaches to the British empiricism studies were analyzed. There was made an attempt of compounding the problematical approach to British empiricism researches, hermeneutical method and paradigmatic approach. The research of such main terms of J. Locke's, G, Berkeley's and D. Hume's conceptions as idea, impression, perception, reflection, substance was conducted. Also, there were marked the common and distinctive features of the understanding of term "idea" by the philosophers. Special attention was concentrated on the problematical or contradictory moments of their conceptions. Among them were such as Locke's problem of material substance, Berkeley's attack on material substance, Hume's missing shade of blue paradox and others.
