Essay

The paper focuses on argumentative or suggestive structural-semantic patterns of syntactic arrangement of composite sentences in speeches of B. Obama and D. Cameron and cognitive construal operations that provide argumentative or suggestive speech manipulation. The major scientific methods are structural-semantic syntactic analysis, cognitive construal operations, hermeneutic-textual, propositional and quantity analysis. The scientific novelty of the research is the identification of differential signs of the speech of a political leader as a prototype genre of the political discourse; the reveal of argumentative-suggestive potential of syntactic arrangement of composite sentences in speeches of B. Obama and D. Cameron, the determination of syntactic units of speech influence, the clarification of syntactic patterns that provide linear and nonlinear movement of the focus and the quantity determination of argumentative and suggestive indexes in speeches of B. Obama and D. Cameron. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to the discourse study, the linguistic manipulation theory, the argumentation theory, the cognitive linguistics. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in teaching Theoretical grammar courses (theme "Composite Sentences"), General language science (theme "Language and Mind"), Stylistics (theme "Stylistic Syntax") as well as courses in the linguistic manipulation theory, cognitive linguistics and discourse study.
