This thesis aims at studying the rhythmic organization of American postmodern poetic texts. The paper clarifies the notion of "a poetic text" and offers a typology of American postmodern poetic texts. The dissertation presents the model of rhythmic organization of American postmodern poetic texts and reveals perceptual and acoustic characteristics of rhythmic units. It establishes a set of prosodic means involved in the rhythmic organization of poetic speech which includes reccurent and commensurable functioning of fundamental frequency, intensity and duration of rhythmic units, interstressed intervals and different types of pauses.
