Rachkov Y. Emblems of Ukraine's classical universities of the late 20th - early 21st centuries: genesis, classification, and functions

Research object is the emblems of Ukraine's classical universities of the late 20th - early 21st centuries. The objectives of this work are holistic and complex analysis of the processes of formation and evolution of the emblems of Ukraine's classical universities of the late 20th - early 21st centuries. Used methods are analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, historical-genetic, historical-comparative, historical-typological, quantitative method. The degree of development of the research issue in historiography are detected; perspective directions of further investigations are exposed; the emblems of Ukraine's classical universities are collected and systematized; classification scheme of the emblems of Ukraine's classical universities of the late 20th - early 21st centuries is proposed; the process of formation and evolution of the sign environment of Ukraine's classical universities is investigated; the emblems are considered to be a manifestation of a corporate consciousness and an indicator of a university community identity; functional destination of the emblems of Ukraine's classical universities in self-reflection and self-representation processes of university communities are analysed. The investigation can be used in educational process.
