Usenko O. The problem of ancient Russian paganism in Ukrainian and Russian historiografhy of the second half of the XVIII - XX centuaries

The research object is Ukrainian and Russian historical thought of the second half of the XVIII – XX centuries. The purpose of the thesis is a comprehensive reproduction of process of historiographical development of the problem of ancient Russian paganism in Russian, Ukrainian and Soviet historical thought in second half of the XVIII –XX centuries. The methods are analysis, synthesis, historical-genetic, historical retrospective, historical comparative, historiographical analysis and synthesis, periodization, classification and scientific criticism of sources. Historiographical, historical and cultural contexts of scientific development of the theme of ancient Russian paganism and Slavic mythology were presented; the basic stages of development of historiographical problems were identified; key research areas of development of ancient Russian paganism in Ukrainian and Russian historiography were educed; the process of the formation of the main discussion units of studying the problem of ancient paganism was considered.
