Ruda N. Foreign-language borrowings in the Turkish language.

The thesis deals with the foreign-language borrowings of French origin in the Turkish language. The author of the thesis identifies and classifies foreign-language borrowings according to the donor language; describes the peculiarities of interaction and mutual influence of languages; provides examples of ethnographisms, regionalisms, exotisms, barbarisms, international vocabulary, loan-words, insertions, classifies foreign-language borrowings of French origin according to the category of thematic groups. The author notes that the principal pattern of French-Turkish language contacts is the borrowing of terminology and international common vocabulary. The openness of the Turkish language to French borrowings is due to the following extralinguistic factors: fashion, intensive development of science and technology, information technology, television and communication sectors, language contacts, integration into the international science and culture. The phonetic means of the Turkish language enabled to convey quite accurately the pronunciation of borrowed words. The vowel harmony law and the consonant assimilation law, protheses, epentheses, substitution, apocopes, reduction affected the change of phonetic form of French borrowings.
