Essay

The thesis offers a new approach to cognitive onomasiological reconstruction of the evaluative component, incorporated in medicinal plants names' semantics in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian. Motivational types, represented in phytonyms with evaluative component of meaning have been determined; the connections between the evaluative meaning and the motivational basis designating medicinal plants have been proved; the original onomasiological meaning of the evaluative semantic component in phytonyms has been reconstructed; correlations have been established between the types of evaluative meaning found in the semantics of phytonyms and stages of human cognitive activity in the process of designation.
