The thesis focuses on the cognitive and discursive peculiarities of the communicative support expression in modern English ordinary and psychotherapeutic discourse. The research has revealed a multi-intentional basis of the communicative support, verbal expression of which is provided by the utterances of different content and structure ensuing the same cognitive scenario. The author identifies the communicative support discourse, qualifying it as a specific modification of an intentional discourse, determines its structure and boundaries. A strong emphasis is placed on its interdiscursive relations, which enable the communicative support discourse to penetrate into other discourse types giving appearance to ordinary and psychotherapeutic subtypes of the communicative support act. Within semantic studies the results obtained have revealed a complex content of the communicative support which integrates the meanings of the communicative and semantic categories of approval, consolation, defense, praise, sympathy and encouragement. The author clarifies the hierarchy structure of the frame model, distinguishing ordinary and psychotherapeutic communicative support as its modifications. The thesis also provides analysis of the speech acts which represent the communicative support act. The level comprises identification of the strategic potential of the communicative support discourse. The author introduces discourse-relevant and discourse-irrelevant tactics to specify the modes ordinary and psychotherapeutic subtypes of the communicative support are realized in speech. Further research presupposes the study of the scenario of successful dialogue interaction with a participant who suffers some kind of psychologic and emotional deviation. Another perspective comprises the analysis of such situations in different fields of institutional communication.
