The thesis contains the solution of a scientific problem of the development of administrative and legal bases of the activity of forest protection and suggests a number of conclusions, proposals and recommendations for its improvement. The concept of administrative and legal forest protection has been defined in broad and narrow senses. The genesis of the development of state administration bodies in the field of forest protection in different periods of existence of the Ukrainian state and the period when Ukrainian lands were part of foreign states. The principles and bases of administrative responsibility for violation of forest legislation, which is a type of legal responsibility and of administrative enforcement in the sphere of activities of forest protection have been revealed.
