Essay

This dissertation focuses on revealing linguo-cognitive mechanisms of formation and communicative-pragmatic properties of lyrical I in R. Frost's and C. Sandburg's poetic idio-discourses. The lyrical I is viewed as an image that incorporates in a syncretic way the image of the lyrical hero and the image of the author. The image of the lyrical I integrates three planes: the conceptual one which reflects the general content of the lyrical I which is structured by conceptual schemes that represent the artistic awareness of the poet, the pragmatic one which represents an intentional influence of the sender of a poetic text on the reader which is found in the author's communicative strategies and speech tactics, and the verbal one which represents explicit and implicit expression of the lyrical I at different levels of a poetic text. The lyrical I reflects the author's feeling and emotions, his attitude to life, events, objects and phenomena of the surrounding reality, etc. with the help of means of a poetic speech. It has been proved that linguo-stylistic means of expression, linguo-cognitive mechanisms of formation and communicative-pragmatic strategies of functioning of lyrical I in R. Frost's and C. Sandburg's idio-discourses have certain features in common as well as divergent ones. Key words: American poetic discourse of the epoch of modernism, communicative-pragmatic characteristics, idio-discourse, linguo-stylistic means of expression, linguo-cognitive peculiarities, lyrical I, literary image.
