Liubymova Y. Functional-semantic Field of Modality in Modern Chinese.

This thesis is dedicated to the complex analysis of the functional-semantic field of modality as a set of language and speech means of expression of the semantic category of modality in modern Chinese. The topicality of the functional analysis of studying the category of modality in modern Chinese has been proved. The specific character of the semantic category of modality and the pattern of its expression in modern Chinese have been generalized. The structure of the functional-semantic field of modality in modern Chinese has been determined and characterized, modeling of the subfields within the functional-semantic field of modality has been accomplished. Means and ways of expression of modality within each subfield of the functional-semantic field of modality have been determined and analyzed. The categorical situations within the functional-semantic field of modality have been revealed and characterized, the typology of the categorical situations within the functional-semantic field of modality in modern Chinese has been formed and presented.
