Essay

For the first time in the Ukrainian literary studies with the help of a comparative method the thesis traces the comparison between the autobiographical novella "Without Roots" by the Ukrainian writer Natalena Koroleva and the autobiographical novel "The Wine of Solitude" by the French writer Іrene Nemirovsky. Genre and typological peculiarities of the writers' autobiographical prose have been analyzed; the distinctiveness of the concept "solitude and estrangement" realization in the autobiographical works by the Ukrainian and French writers has been described; the thesis also deals with a range of similar poetic and compositional, as well as a range of distinctions based on the specificity of ideology and the writers' artistic intentions. It has been proved that Natalena Koroleva and Іrene Nemirovsky appealed to the autobiographical genre because of their similar life experience namely emotional turmoil caused by loneliness and alienation in adolescence. "External" facts of their biographies had also a significant impact on their autobiographical thinking. The works "Without Roots" and "The Wine of Solitude" are regarded as artistic projection of real cultural, historic and social reality in the early XX century.Natalena Koroleva's novella "Without Roots" and Irene Nemirovsky's novel "The Wine of Solitude" are based on true facts and statements. At the same time errors, omission and speculation became their inalienable factors. It has been typologically found that the fiction is a part of authors' autobiographical prose.
